The museum is housed in the “Chüechlihus” (cake house) in the centre of Langnau im Emmental. The building, built in 1526, operated as a coffee house until 1956 and was famous for its “Chüechli” (fried pastries).

The newly designed exhibition with entrance area, intro rooms and the animated film “Ds Ämmitau i mim Hus” captures the essence of Emmental culture in a compelling way.

Today, the regional museum offers visitors of all ages exciting insights into the cultural heritage of the Emmental, from the Alpine cheese dairy to the local ice hockey club, the SCL Tigers. There’s a special atmosphere in the museum, the oldest wooden building in the region and still largely in its original state. The past and present of the Emmental are brought to life – from the everyday life of the inhabitants to encounters with important personalities from the region to local crafts and trades. One of the largest and most important collections of Langnau ceramics as well as white cooperage and Flüehli glass complete the range of artifacts.

The museum comprises a permanent exhibition with 25 rooms, temporary exhibitions on current topics, a museum shop and a self-service café. The small courtyard with its cottage garden, the large, covered balcony and the museum foyer invite visitors to linger and offer spaces for drink receptions or concerts. There are also special activities for children and adolescents.
