With the e-bike, very leisurely and without the motor rather sporty: but regardless of the two-wheeler, the Fernsichtroute Frienisberg is definitely a sensory experience. At the heart of this scenic cycling route is the Chutzenturm: Those who climb the 234 steps are rewarded with an impressive panoramic view from Titlis to Moléson. And thanks to the adventure panels along the way, more can be learned about the natural observation sites in this region.

The most beautiful way from the city centre of Bern to the Fernsichtroute Frienisberg follows the Veloland signage 890: From Bern station, take the Aare-Route 8 or Route 94 via Länggasse through the Bremgartenwald. After the Kappelen bridge, cyclists are already on the 890 Fernsichtroute Frienisberg, which is best experienced counterclockwise.

Tip from the author

Some restaurants and cafés have irregular opening hours. To avoid having to cycle hungry to the next place, we recommend checking the opening hours in advance on the websites of the local establishments.

Second tip: Be sure to plan a stop at the Büsselimoos nature reserve and explore the area on a small walk.

Directions

Fascination raised bog

The circular route is best started in Hinterkappelen. The first ascent leads to the adventure location Büsselimoos. Here you learn more about one of the smallest nature reserves in the canton of Bern, where it is not the distant view that impresses, but the play of light and shadow and the view of the fascinating raised bog.

Ascent with reward

The next ascent via Kirchlindach to the Leutschen viewpoint is not easy, even with an e-bike. But once you reach the top, in good weather, a great view opens up of the city of Bern and the mountain ranges behind it. Hard to believe that a major Bern airport was once planned here. You can read more about this on the information board on site.

Panoramic enjoyment on the highest wooden tower in Switzerland

Next stop: Chutzenturm. Those who climb the 234 steps are rewarded with an impressive panoramic view from Titlis to Moléson. How about a picnic at the wooden table under the tower? It’s best to make a short stop at a charming farm shop along the route and buy specialties from the region.

From swamp area to vegetable growing area

The ride down to the village of Frienisberg is quite bumpy, but afterwards it continues leisurely to the next highlight. At the adventure location Frieswilhubel, you look out over the Seeland, which has developed from a swamp area into one of the most important vegetable growing areas in Switzerland. Sounds interesting, right? Saddle up and go!
