This tour centres on the occupation of Bern in 1798, when Napoleon conquered half of Europe. The Bernese were defeated by the French in the Battle of Grauholz. As a result, Jegenstorf Castle was also occupied by them and from then on served as their living quarters.
A guide takes on the role of legionnaire Jean Roche Coignet and recounts his experiences of this moving time with a French accent and plenty of humour. Why were the French the first to plunder the wine cellar and why was the owner of the castle at the time, Johann Rudolf Stürler, otherwise spared? Participants will learn this and other exciting facts on this scenic tour.
