The hike starts at the Schangnau, Post bus stop, leads uphill over alpine paths and meadows, and offers an impressive view of the Hohgant, the "crown of the Emmental." After a varied ascent through forests, past a Nagelfluh cliff, you reach the Wachthubel (1,414 m above sea level), rewarded with a magnificent 360° panorama over the Bernese Alps, the Emmental, and the Entlebuch. The descent follows the Napfbergland border trail, passes the UNESCO Biosphere Entlebuch, and allows a stop at Grosshorben farm, where a refrigerator with drinks and ice cream is available for refreshment. Along the way, you pass the Hinder Rämisgummen farm, once owned by the legendary Bernese aristocrat Louise Elisabeth de Meuron, and have the option to make a detour to the Erika mountain restaurant. After a gentle descent along the Ilfis, the trail leads to Trubschachen station, where a visit to the Kambly factory is a perfect end to the route.

Tip from the author

Admire the crocus blossoms in April and stock up on Kambly pastries in Trubschachen at the end of the hike.
