The diverse museum with its wondrous chambers, topical rooms, and interactive stations is a fun attraction for visitors of all ages. On the castle tour, you will learn how the Zähringen people lived 800 years ago – without internet or even refrigerators – see the largest Egyptian sarcophagus exhibited in Switzerland and discover all kinds of interesting objects from all over the world that have found their way to Burgdorf.

An impressive collection of historical armour is on display at Burgdorf Castle Museum. Armour from different eras stands side by side in the display case, surrounded by weapons and helmets, a faint echo of the battles and tournaments of times long past. The exhibition arouses admiration and curiosity for the artistry and history of chivalry.

On the top floor of Museum Schloss Burgdorf, the exhibition creates a mystical atmosphere: a large illuminated globe hangs in the centre of the wood-panelled room, with images projected onto it, while information kiosks below present knowledge of the earth in a cosy and inviting environment.

And in the castle’s courtroom, you can get a real feeling for court cases from back in the day. Multimedia shows and models of the city and the region take families, school classes, groups, and history enthusiasts on a journey to the past. And the castles’ very own ghost, Burdtli, will be your guide on a family tour with shadow puppetry and a surprise gift.

Detective tour castle burgdorf

Children aged 9 and over have the opportunity to discover the castle with the new detective tour. A surprise awaits those who help the detective solve the theft of an important object at the end of the tour. The relevant tour flyers can be obtained free of charge from the reception desk at Burgdorf Castle.
