The castle museum, which spreads over five floors, exhibits historical local artifacts: valuable antiques, such as medieval antependiums from Thun’s churches or the only surviving piece of loot from the Burgundian Wars, bear witness to the town’s eventful past. And the panoramic views of the city, the lake, and the Alps from the castle’s four towers are simply breathtaking.

It’s worth checking the castle’s event calendar ahead of your visit, as the historic location regularly hosts classical concerts, plays, and other cultural events.

Great events in the great hall

The castle’s keep is the only intact, remaining witness of the Zähringen construction period and was declared cultural property of national importance. Inside, you can still experience the great hall as the largest surviving representational hall of the High Middle Ages. The great hall can be rented from mid-March to mid-November.
