Bern Sustainability Days

From the beginning of September, an impressive green arch installation will adorn the square in front of the main station – a first hint at the Bern Sustainability Days. The opening festival on 7 September will draw visitors out into the open air, give some inspiration and provide a taste of the festival programme over the next two weeks. Taking part are people with projects from fields spanning from food to mobility, upcycling, energy, biodiversity, clothing, society and many more.

In the spirit of sustainability, Bahnhofplatz will be closed to traffic between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. during the opening festival. This will create a lively promenade with around 50 event organisers, local cuisine, an entertaining children’s programme and cosy concerts. The second Bern Sustainability Award will be presented at 2 p.m.

The arch installation alludes to the focal point of this year’s Sustainability Days: partnership projects that combine several sustainability topics.

Further information on the programme can be found here here.

Bern Welcome at the Opening of the Bern Sustainability Days

Bern Welcome is presenting itself in a different light at the Bern Sustainability Days: Instead of the usual tips for experiences in the canton of Bern, visitors can discover a new collection of redesigned souvenirs, created in collaboration with Ina from Recycle Design Bern, a Bernese designer that puts the circular economy at the centre of her versatile collections. Products that are no longer used are brought back into circulation by reinterpreting them or developing new products from them.

As part of the Bern Sustainability Days, Bern Welcome and Recycling Design are realising a project that reinterprets disused souvenirs with a new design and just a pinch of the Bernese way of life. Hannes Schertenleib (@version_schertenleib), who sews trendy hats from old Bern Welcome polo shirts, is also involved in the same project.

Bern Bio-Märit

If you're still looking for a good introduction to the Bern Sustainability Days, you shouldn't miss the Bern Bio-Märit on 6 September on the Bundesplatz. An exciting programme awaits young Märit guests in particular – a petting zoo, interactive stands, a tractor course and much more - an event for young and old alike.
