Freilichtspiele Moosegg (Moosegg Open-Air Theatre)
In June, the beloved open-air theatre will be showing the Broadway musical “Kiss Me, Kate”: a turbulent relationship comedy with famous melodies, crooks, jealousy and theatrical chaos surrounding Fred Graham and his ex-wife Lilli Vanessi. In July and August, the organisers are staging a modern version of Emmental native Jeremias Gotthelf’s “The Black Spider”, the dark legend about a devil’s pact, a growing spider, and disaster in the Emmental.
Moving plays have been performed on the Moosegg’s outdoor stage for almost 30 years now, and all of them have either had a connection to the Emmental and its people or befitted the Moosegg in terms of dramaturgy. The theatre is way beyond the Emmental and its open-air performances are a fixture in Bern’s cultural events calendar. Sadly, an era will soon come to an end as this will be the second-last year of performances at the Moosegg open-air theatre.
Simon Burkhalter, director, producer and actor from the Emmental, has been responsible for the artistic direction of the popular open-air spectacle since 2017, never failing to wow the audiences with his productions.
