Megamarsch Bern (Bern’s mega march)
50 kilometres by car? No problem. By bike or e-bike? Feasible. But on foot? A physical feat. Anyone over the age of 18 and brave enough to take on this challenge, can do so on 5 October. The goal of the Megamarsch Bern is to complete the 50 kilometres of distance and 450 metres in altitude within twelve hours. There are no rankings. Being a part of it and persevering is all that counts.
The event, held for the first time in 2016, is always looking for beautiful cities and routes – this year it found just that in Bern. The exact route will be announced two weeks before the event. However, an approximate route has already been published.
The starting point is in the city of Bern. First, the Megamarsch leads through the outer neighbourhoods and suburbs of the federal city. Next, you will leave the city and walk through some amazing stretches of nature. The route passes through Bern’s most beautiful recreational areas and leads you through the Könziberg forest and along the River Aare. After crossing the «Aareschloufe» (the Aare loop), the participants will see the outline of the city of Bern once again. But take note: After passing the picturesque Nydeggbrücke, an additional loop will lead the participants away from the city and towards Ostermundigen, Muri and Wabern. Only afterwards will you have completed the 50 kilometres.
The ticket includes refreshments at the four refreshment stations and a certificate, which is awarded after passing the second station. A medal and entry into the Hall of Fame are waiting at the finish line.
Pre-check-in can easily be done from Saturday, 28 September 2024 at the Tourist Information at Bern station.
The event website contains various blog entries and interesting facts about the Megamarsch. Reviews of past events, articles on safety, and general tips and tricks will help you prepare for this challenge.
