With the e-bike very leisurely and without motor rather sporty: No matter which two-wheeler you use, exploring the local specialities around the UNESCO-listed Bern Old Town is the focus. It is worth making regular stops along the way: At marked experience spots – be sure to watch out for the green signs and the "log benches" – there is interesting, amusing and surprising information on nature and agriculture.
The route can be easily covered in several stages. Thus, starting point, direction and length are freely selectable. From Bern station, the Veloland network leads to the Green Ribbon. Follow the signposted number 37 through the Breitenrain district via Ostermundigen to Deisswil. There, turn right onto the signposted number 888 and ride through the Gümligental to Gümligen – and you are on the Green Ribbon around the federal city. Experience route 888 crosses twice with experience route 890. These two routes can be combined as desired.
Tip from the author
Many restaurants and cafés are closed on Sundays and Mondays or have irregular opening hours. To avoid cycling hungry to the next door, we recommend checking the opening hours on the venues' websites beforehand.
Note: Dangerous road crossing
Be cautious when crossing Bernstrasse between Löhrmoos and Büsselimoos. The main road to be crossed has a speed limit of 80 km/h.

Directions
Starting point Köniz
The best is to start the circular route in Köniz and ride clockwise towards Niederwangen.
Local specialities
After Köniz, the ride continues along the well-signposted Schweizmobil Route 888 towards Niederwangen. After that, the next green sign can be found at the hamlet "Cheese and Bread".
Experience spot by the water
Next stop Wohlensee – a home for many animals. Here, curious minds learn why beavers were almost exterminated in the 18th century. Whether a swim in the Wohlensee or a snack stop at Bern's most iconic lakeside bar – Bogen 17 Kiosque – it is worth taking a longer break here.
View of the city and Bern region
From Wohlensee to Herrenschwandenhöhe – up here, e-bikers get rewarded with a picturesque view of the city of Bern and the Bernese Alps behind it. From here, botany fans can discover the Lörmoos raised bog or the small Büsselimoos nature reserve on foot.
Local specialties
Who likes cheese? At Pfister’s Molki in Zollikofen, depending on the season, up to 150 varieties of cheese are available in the fridge. Or how about a sweet dessert? Another highlight are the farm-made ice creams produced by the Molki. By the way, along the experience route there are many farm and village shops with local products. One of them is the farm shop at Inforama Rütti. Whether dried apple rings, jams or meat specialties – here everyone looking for a souvenir from the region will find something. The various green signs at Inforama Rütti inspire visitors to explore the grounds with the leasehold farm operation and the various animals.
Welcome to the orchard paradise
Fruit is the number one theme at the stop in Flugbrunnen. It is recommended to bite into a juicy apple here and learn more about the Swiss people's favourite fruit thanks to the information on the green sign.
Floodplain landscape of national importance
The next experience spot is at Hüenliwald in Allmendingen. A sip of water from the bottle and then the route continues to Bern-Belp airport. Right next to the airport awaits the next highlight – a floodplain landscape of national importance.
To conclude: Refreshment at Köniz Castle
Through the idyllic Köniz valley it goes on towards Köniz. Fancy a refreshment? At the Restaurant zum Schloss there are refreshing drinks alongside seasonal dishes. What could be better than enjoying a cool drink in the courtyard, in the shade of the large lime tree, and toasting to the completed route on warm days?
