Gigantic mountain hike
Beautiful (mountain) hiking route from Oberaargau to the canton of Solothurn with gigantic views, mountain restaurants, and picnic spots. Not to forget, the suspension bridge – definitely a special highlight of this route.

The route starts at the Bettlerküche in Farnern. Even here, you can enjoy a gigantic panoramic view of the Alps. The path leads on a mountain hiking trail to the first refreshment opportunity, the Bergwirtschaft Hofbergli. After a steep short ascent, you will soon see the highlight of the hike: the suspension bridge. This section was closed for over 5 years as the hiking trail could no longer be used. After crossing the bridge, the path leads a little further through the forest until you reach the open field/pasture. Above you can see the restaurant Niederwiler Stierenberg. The route continues over pastures with spectacular views. Steeply downhill, the path leads to the rear and front Schmiedenmatt. Both alpine farms invite you to linger, eat, and drink. From here, you hike the last few hundred meters slightly uphill along the road until you reach your starting point again – the Bettlerküche.

Getting there
- Public Transport
The ASM bus takes you to Farnern. From there, you still walk a short distance to the Bettlerküche. However, this is quite doable.
- Privat Transport
By car (motorway exit Wiedlisbach/Wangen a. A.), head towards Wiedlisbach, then Rumisberg, Farnern to the Bettlerküche.
- Parking
There is a limited number of parking spaces below the Bettlerküche.
