At Mettlenalp you follow the hiking path, which initially runs relatively flat in a northwest direction. After less than a quarter of an hour, it becomes noticeably steeper. Soon you will see the panorama that makes this hike so special: mountains as far as the eye can see. Upon reaching the Napf, it’s worth enjoying the view in all directions. Even the wide view down to the Central Plateau is impressive. The reason for the extraordinary panoramic view is not the height of the Napf, which is "only" 1405 meters above sea level. But because the Napf is the highest elevation far and wide, one feels as if on the roof of Switzerland there.
Now the actual high route begins. It leads alternately through forest, along forest edges and briefly over roads. One magnificent view replaces the next, so that one repeatedly arrives at places where one likes to linger. First, you go down from Napf to Änzisattel and up to Hochänzi. There, the self-service stand with cool drinks is just right. Another stage goal is the Lushütte. The last two hours of the hike follow with noticeably more descent than ascent. This way, tired leg muscles, for which the constant change of ups and downs might be a challenge, are somewhat spared.
