Schwarzwasser-Sense Gorge Path Stage 1 (SchweizMobil 381)
The route crosses the two gorges several times or follows their course. Large glacial meltwater rivers carved these impressive gorges into the molasse rock. Various bridge constructions can be admired.

Not far from the city of Bern is the Sense-Schwarzwasser nature reserve. With its freely flowing waters, shaded spots in the forest, and many sand and gravel banks, it is a popular local recreation area. The route starts at the Schwarzwasserbrücke train station. Once down in the Schwarzwasser gorge, the route follows the river upwards through typical floodplain forests.
After climbing onto the plateau with its farmhouses, the view suddenly opens up to the Gantrisch range and the Jura. Once again, the route descends into the gorge. Over the high plateau and the church hill of Wahlern, Schwarzenburg with its castle is reached.
Bern Welcome Tip
On this route, there is not only beautiful nature to marvel at, but also history to experience: Once you arrive in Schwarzenburg, it is well worth visiting Schwarzenburg Castle. Our tip: stay overnight at the Hotel-Restaurant Sonne and hike the second stage back to the Schwarzwasserbrücke the next day.
