The picture shows a peaceful forest path, marked by a sign for the "Amiet-Hesse-Weg". Sunlight filters through the trees and creates an inviting, tranquil atmosphere, ideal for a reflective walk in nature.

Lina Bögli Center Herzogenbuchsee

In the footsteps of Cuno Amiet, Bruno Hesse and Lina Bögli

Useful information

  • Oberaargau
  • Art & culture

The art and culture trail leads in a shorter and longer version in the "Buchsibergen" above Riedtwil through the life and work of the two Bernese painters Cuno Amiet and Bruno Hesse. Amiet was a major figure in the Swiss art world. Hesse was the son of Nobel Prize winner Hermann Hesse. The latter came to the Amiet family in Oschwand as a foster son at the age of 15. Lina Bögli also grew up in the neighbourhood. At the age of 34, she travelled the world for ten years and wrote the bestselling book "Vorwärts/Talofa" about it - the first female travel writer in Switzerland to do so.

The non-profit organisation Pro Amiet-Hesse-Weg has been responsible for the art and culture trail since 2016. This was followed in 2019 by the opening of the Lina Bögli Centre in the attic of the Kornhaus Herzogenbuchsee. The barrier-free space is home to a permanent exhibition on the life and travels of Lina Bögli as well as readings, talks and special exhibitions. The centre is open on Friday and Sunday afternoons from 14:00 to 17:00. Groups are catered for by prior arrangement.
