An elegant staircase with a red carpet leads through a quiet exhibition room. Historic photographs hang suspended and tell of sport and history. The atmosphere is dignified, thoughtful and characterised by quiet respect.

Today, the Swiss Shooting Museum is one of the few sports history museums in Switzerland. Alongside football and skiing, shooting is one of the most popular sports in the country. Practised both recreationally and professionally, aiming at targets is no longer just a man’s game – girls attend youth shooting courses and women achieve major successes at international competitions.

Sports equipment and photographs take centre stage in a bright exhibition room. Jerseys, rifles and shoes tell of precision and passion. The atmosphere is concentrated, respectful and arouses admiration for sporting excellence.

Technical innovation, traditional craftsmanship and living customs continue to shape the world of shooting. Stories of marksmen and heroes appear in literature, theatre, opera or comics. At the “Chilbi” (village fair), shooting becomes entertainment. Idioms like “hit the mark” are part of everyday language.

Swiss history comes alive across 500 square metres. Interactive stations deepen visitors’ knowledge, and even air rifle shooting can be tried out.
