Traditional events in Bern

Alpine horns and cows, chocolate and cheese, yodelling and flag-waving of course you can also find typical Swiss traditions in and around the federal capital.

Religious Communities

  • Numerous religious communities with meeting places are represented in the federal city. The House of Religions is a meeting place for Muslims, Hindus, Christians, Alevis and Buddhists, who find dignified premises for their ceremonies there. Exhibitions, lectures and discussions are also organised to promote dialogue.

  • Some churches also hold services in other languages, in particular French, English, Italian and Spanish.


Politics

The federal city of Bern lies at the heart of Switzerland. Thanks to the federalist system and direct democracy, dialogue between the political levels of the Confederation, the cantons and the communes and the population is fostered.
