150 years of the Emmental Railway
It was the year 1857 when the first train rolled through the Emmental. Back then, it was much more than just a means of transport. The Emmental Railway brought the communities of the valley together and created a common identity. The railway transformed the Emmental from an agricultural valley into a region of services and industry.
Numerous festivities are taking place throughout the Emmental during this years’ anniversary: in Burgdorf, visitors can revel in the nostalgia of the old dining car before dancing the night away to the rock music of Polo Sélection.
Huttwil also has a number of highlights for visitors: A scavenger hunt through the train depot or an unforgettable ride in the driver’s cab – the festival has unique activities in store for everybody.
Technical demos in the workshops, a ride on a steam engine or the christening of a locomotive are just a few of the events that visitors can look forward to during the 150th anniversary of the Emmental Railway.
