Advent market in Burgdorf
On 7 December 2025, the town of Burgdorf is transformed into a winter wonderland: With over 150 different stalls, the Advent market is heaven for anyone who loves a good “Wiehnachtsmärit” (Christmas market). The products range from traditional craftsmanship to hand-embroidered fabric to culinary treats – there’s something for every taste. And the various stalls with toys for every age offer perfect gifts. Prepare for excited shrieks on Christmas morning!
You’ll find the merry market in the old town, in the Kornhaus neighbourhood and at Staldenkehr. If you’ve never been to Burgdorf or don’t know your way around yet, just follow the scent of mulled wine, hot punch and “Güezi” (cookies) wafting through the streets of the Zähringen town on that day.

Burgdorf Castle can be reached on foot from the town centre after a short (albeit slightly strenuous) climb. But it’s worth it: on this day, the Adventsschloss (Advent Castle) is all about Medieval craftsmanship. At the Handwerksmarkt (craft market), visitors are introduced to pottery, blacksmithing and basketry and have the opportunity to buy the finished products.
