The picture shows a large crowd of people relaxing in the open-air cinema Kino im Kocher. The spectators, spread out on a green lawn, enjoy a film as dusk falls. The scene is atmospherically lit by the stage lighting and radiates a convivial and cosy atmosphere that is typical of summer evenings at an open-air cinema. The rays of light breaking through the darkness lend the event a magical flair.

From Wednesday to Saturday, the “Kino im Kocher” offers open-air cinema enjoyment in the heart of Bern – and that for over a week. As the sun slowly sets, the large screen lights up in Kocherpark. Classics like “E.T.” and newer films like “The Witness” are part of this year’s programme. The films start at around 9:00 p.m. in the charming courtyard in downtown Bern.

During these days, Kocherpark transforms into a meeting place for the people of Bern. The open-air cinema attracts hundreds of film enthusiasts each year, who make themselves comfortable on their picnic blankets. For those wishing to enjoy a cool drink or a tasty snack, the cinema bar opens at 6:00 p.m.

Looking for a surprise? A surprise film will be shown on both the first and last evening of the open-air cinema.

On 14 August, the French and Belgian embassies, together with the European Union, invite audiences to a shared film evening as part of the “European Night” at Kino im Kocher. The film “L’Auberge espagnole” will be shown – its charming storytelling and authentic depiction of student life make it a favourite among viewers.

In case of bad weather, no screening will take place. The organisers will provide information via their website and on social media by 6:00 p.m. on the day of the screening or earlier in the event of a clear forecast, should the screening need to be cancelled.
