The starting point is in Riedtwil, where the babbling Mutzbach already awaits hikers. The path winds idyllically along the stream until you reach the impressive waterfall – a place to linger, marvel, and take photos.
Behind the waterfall, the trail climbs partly steeply up to the highest point of the route. The ascent is rewarded with a beautiful view over the hills of Oberaargau. It continues over open meadows, through shady forests, and past typical farms – a rural scene that radiates calmness and authenticity. The view opens repeatedly into the distance until you slowly return to the starting point.
The hike is well marked, technically easy, but requires a certain basic fitness – ideal for all who seek a sporty but relaxed route. It's especially beautiful in spring and autumn, when the light bathes the landscape in warm colors.
Whether as a half-day excursion or a small discovery trip in between – this route ideally combines nature, exercise, and relaxation.

You can reach Riedtwil from Herzogenbuchsee by bus.
- Privat Transport
By car, about 10–20 minutes from Langenthal, Burgdorf, or Herzogenbuchsee.
- Parking
Important: Park only in the Mutzbachfall parking lot in front of the Oberaargau Book Center. Parking along the road can be expensive.

Caution when wet: especially in the section around the Mutzbach, it can be slippery in damp weather – some caution is advised.

Sturdy footwear, provisions for the way, and ideally a seating option for a rest at the waterfall or on the meadow.
