The route starts at the church in Seeberg and takes you through forests and across meadows to the stony Steinhof. Steinhof is an enclave. It belongs to the canton of Solothurn but is completely surrounded by Bernese municipalities.

Characteristic for Steinhof are around 24 smaller and larger erratic boulders, which were found in the municipality and were transported here by the Rhône glacier. Many of them were used as building material and no longer exist today. The three largest existing erratics carry the names Grosse Fluh, Menhir, and Kilchlifluh. As silent witnesses of the Ice Age, the ancient rocks originate from southern Valais and were brought here more than 10,000 years ago on the back of the Rhône glacier. Grosse Fluh is the magnificent boulder with a volume of 1,200 cubic meters and a total weight of 3,500 tons. It is the largest erratic rock in the entire Swiss Plateau. It is made of Arkesine gneiss as found in the Val de Bagnes in Valais.
