Emmental cattle descent

Experience tradition up close: At the Emmental cattle descent, festively decorated cows, living traditions and a lively folk festival atmosphere descend from the alp into the valley. An experience for the whole family.

Past event

During the traditional cattle descend, around 850 decorated cows will leave the alpine pastures and descend into the Emmental valley. The folk festival offers music, culinary delights, traditions and a festive atmosphere.

Programme

  • 08:30 a.m.: Meeting point at Bern train station

  • 08:50 a.m.: Departure to Sumiswald-Grünen

  • 10:00 a.m.–11:30 a.m.: Arrival and procession of the cattle

  • 11:30 a.m.: Lunch at a local restaurant

  • 01:00 p.m.: Final arrivals

  • 03:10 p.m.: Back at Bern train station

  • The international community in Bern

  • Also open to accompanying persons and children aged 10 and over (only if accompanied).

Costs

  • The International Bern Welcome Desk will cover the cost of lunch and train travel.
