5 questions for Gábor Filep
The new format “5 questions for …” introduces key people from the Bern Network. Kicking things off is Gábor Filep, who joined Bern Welcome in January and now leads the Bern Network.
Gábor, thank you for being the first to answer our 5 questions. Tell us briefly where you work and what your role is.
Gladly. As Head of Leisure Tourism & Bern Tourism Network, I’m responsible for both our Bern Network partnership model and the leisure segment. This includes the E-Bike Destination Bern, the Tourist Information at Bern railway station and on the road, as well as our market activities.
Connecting with players along the tourism value chain is important to me – which is why I’m regularly out and about in the Bern region.
As Head of the Bern Tourism Network, what do you personally see as the added value of the Bern Network?
The cross-sector exchange and synergies within the Bern Network create space for creative collaboration and enable knowledge and experience sharing that wouldn’t otherwise happen. This sparks fresh ideas, helps to continuously improve tourism services in Bern, and increases visibility among new audiences.
Gábor Filep, Bern Welcome
Since the beginning of the year, Gábor Filep has been Head of Leisure Tourism & Bern Tourism Network at Bern Welcome.
A trained chef and graduate of the Swiss Hotel Management School Lucerne (SHL), he comes from the hotel industry and spent several years working abroad. His most recent project was launching the new Harry’s Home Hotel in Bern-Ostermundigen.
How should the Bern Network evolve over the next five years?
The Bern Network should grow sustainably. Beyond strengthening the local tourism sector, it should serve as a role model and source of inspiration for other destinations. It also aims to promote sustainable development, foster innovative partnerships and reinforce Bern’s position as a high-quality destination for visitors.
Bern, I love you …
… Favourite spot: the Pläfe (Münsterplattform)
… Favourite word: Bärn gscheh
… Favourite excursion: the Chuderhüsi Tower in the Emmental
The view from Chuderhüsi, nestled in the tranquil Weisstanne forest, is simply breathtaking – especially at sunset. Every visit leaves me with a sense of awe, calm and a carefree space to reflect.
And now to the final question: who would you like to hear from next?
I’d love to learn more about Miduca. I’m sending along a small gift* for them – along with the question: what does Miduca have in common with the Zytglogge?
*A coaster featuring various Bern motifs – including the Zytglogge.
Many thanks for your insights, Gábor!
