Two men are concentrating on transferring the contents of a large cauldron into a container, surrounded by a steaming mist that suggests intense, almost palpable activity.
A beer is carefully tapped, the golden foam fills the glass, a picture full of anticipation for the first sip and the get-together.
A young man pensively sips a cup, older gentlemen watch him in the background, a moment of reflection and appreciation within a convivial group.

How was beer brewed in the Middle Ages? Over an open fire, of course. At Burgdorf Castle, master brewer Üelu shows you how it's done: he recounts the history of beer, explains the ins and outs and teaches what's important when brewing together. It's a place for stirring, brewing and, of course, tasting.

Brewing at the castle" can be booked in the afternoon from April to October. During the approximately four-hour workshop, participants learn all about the mashing process, how delicate raw materials become beer, what styles of beer exist, what they taste like and make top-fermented Pale Ale themselves. The special feature: the brewing is done over an open fire, just like in the good old days! A few weeks later, after the fermentation process, the precious beer can be tasted and enjoyed. While the beer simmers in the courtyard of the castle, the group will discover objects and stories about this cult drink during the guided tour of the museum.

Brewing at the castle

How about some time out? If you want to turn "brewing at the castle" into a short break, why not spend the night at the Youth hostel in the castle - and explores the charming little town of Burgdorf the next day.
