5 questions for Bindella
With its restaurants, Bindella brings Italian flair to Bern. In this interview, Rudi Bindella explains how the company manages to keep reinventing itself while preserving Bernese charm.
Bindella runs several restaurants in Bern – including the venerable Kornhauskeller, but also Lorenzini and Verdi. How do you, as a national company, manage to bring Bernese charm into your venues?
It’s the people on site who shape the atmosphere. Our staff are deeply rooted in the region and understand our guests’ needs and preferences very well. Their connection to Bern, combined with our lived company values, creates an authentic ambience.
Rudi Bindella, Bindella
Rudi studied economics at the University of Zurich. Since 2010, he has been working in the family business in the fourth generation and, since 2023, has held operational responsibility for the company.
At the end of last year, the Spaghetti Factory closed and Trattoria Sempre opened. What is the concept of the new restaurant? And how does Bindella manage to spot food trends and stay ahead of the curve?
Trattoria Sempre is based on a modern sharing concept instead of traditional main courses. Guests can share cicchetti (Venetian finger food), polpette and pizzette – all homemade and lovingly prepared. Our goal is to redefine the restaurant experience. It’s not just about good food, but about the interplay of flavour and shared moments.
The interior is also a statement: a bold mix of vibrant colours, quirky memorabilia and hand-picked antiques. It combines Italian nostalgia with an avant-garde twist. The carefully chosen pieces give the trattoria a unique character – as if they had always been there. Hence the name “Sempre”.

Bindella has been part of the Bern-Netzwerk for some time. How does this exchange help in your work?
The various events offer great opportunities to connect with other industries and local businesses. Interesting conversations arise – and often new project ideas.
After all, we all share the same goal: to create added value for the city of Bern.
Bärn, ig ha di gärn …
… Favourite speciality: Bernerplatte
… Favourite place: Trattoria Sempre is a project we put an incredible amount of heart into. Seeing and experiencing the finished result now fills me with great joy.
… Favourite word: “Hurti”. It sounds especially funny in Bernese German, where people tend to go about life at a more relaxed pace.
Finally, who from the Bern-Netzwerk would you like to read about in the next edition?
The BLS. For many of our employees, the train is like a second office – they travel on it every day. I’d love to learn more about the organisation, also because the topic of mobility really interests me.
Grazie mille for your insights!
